Belotero™ Balance in Washington DC

Also Serving Mclean, Alexandria, Loudoun County and Arlington

  • This filler was available for years in Europe before being approved in the U.S. recently, and is different from the other hyaluronic acid fillers in that it doesn’t pull in water the way that JuvédermTM Ultra Plus XC or VolumaTM will, which translates to less swelling post-treatment.
  • It is also the softest of the injectable dermal fillers, making it optimal for subtle revolumizing in thin skinned areas.
  • This makes it ideal for areas prone to swelling, such as the Lips as well as Under-Eyes and Tear Trough, or for people who tend to experience more pronounced swelling with other fillers.

  • This injectable dermal filler is made of hyaluronic acid, a glycosaminoglycan that is made naturally by our skin to help it hold onto water and keep skin firm and hydrated.
  • As such, there is minimal potential for allergy with this family of products.

Our approach:

  • Because this filler integrates fully into the skin and can be injected superficially without creating a bluish hue called the Tyndall effect, Dr. Sherber prefers BeloteroTM when treating fine lines.
  • Dr. Sherber uses a silicone-lined needle so that the smallest diameter needle possible can be used, and threads the BeloteroTM delicately into etched lines to soften them.
  • We mix a small amount of room temperature lidocaine into the BeloteroTM to make it smoother to inject and also to optimize the comfort of the treatment.

Preparing for Treatment

  • For the 2 weeks prior to any injectable treatment we ask that you discontinue any NSAIDs such as Aleve, Advil, or Aspirin (unless medically necessary), as well as any supplements containing fish oil, omega 3 fatty acids, gingko, or ginger, in order to minimize the risk of bruising.
  • You are welcome to take Tylenol for minor discomforts rather than an NSAID.
  • If you have a history of herpes simplex cold sores, and if the filler is used near your mouth, we may prescribe an antiviral to take as an adjunct to treatment to prevent an outbreak.

What to Expect

  • For optimal comfort, we apply numbing cream for 20 minutes before treatment.  Immediately pre-treatment, the area to be injected is prepped with an ice roller to provide additional numbing and to constrict the blood vessels in order to minimize the chance of bruising.
  • BeloteroTM can also be layered over *VolumaTM* or *JuvédermTM Ultra XC* to soften superficial lines after deeper revolumizing is completed. Mild swelling is expected post-treatment, and is more pronounced if the lips or corners of the mouth are treated, as these are very vascular areas.
  • The swelling does have the benefit of stretching the fibroblasts (collagen producing cells) in the area of treatment, which triggers collagen production.
  • Since BeloteroTM is the thinnest of the fillers, the volume augmentation may not last as long as other fillers in areas of stronger muscle movement such as the lips.
  • Dr. Sherber prefers to use this under the eyes to correct hollows in patients who are thin-skinned and who might therefore get a bluish hue from JuvédermTM.

Other Options

  • JuvédermTM Ultra XC is an excellent “all around” filler to volumize the Lips, Under-Eyes and Tear Trough, Cheeks, Nasolabial Folds, Temples and Jawline.
  • As a thicker filler, Juvederm Ultra Plus XC is an excellent filler for the Cheeks, Nasolabial Folds,Temples and Jawline.
  • As the thickest filler, RadiesseTM is an excellent alternative to volumize the cheeks, jawline, and temples and offers the best value per unit volume.
  • Cross-linking gives VolumaTM powerful long-lasting effects and is excellent for treating deep over areas of volume loss in the mid-face.
  • For long-lasting volume restoration of the face, Facial Fat Grafting is a powerful surgical technique that utilizes your own fat as a permanent filler. For maximum comfort, Dr. Rad performs this under light anesthesia. It is safe, involves minimal downtime and gives life-long results.
