LASER stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Lasers use light energy to target melanin (removal of dark spots, hair removal), hemoglobin (treatment of redness and visible veins), or water (collagen stimulation for skin rejuvenation).
The new generation of lasers provides skin-perfecting results that aren’t achievable through skincare alone, and innovations in fractionated non-ablative resurfacing (the newest innovation being the Clear + Brilliant platform of lasers) keep skin behaving biologically younger which translates to a more youthful appearance over the years.
Dr. Sherber’s approach focuses on improving skin health by bringing fresh undamaged skin to the surface, while improving skin’s appearance by softening imperfections with little to no downtime.
This can be a treatment of the face alone, but Dr. Sherber generally recommends including the jawline and neck, and even the chest and hands depending on the appearance of your skin. This stimulates the production of new collagen and triggers son cell turnover: these are processes that slow with aging, and so the Clear + Brilliant treatment makes a meaningful physiologic impact on the skin.
This laser treatment is akin to ‘aerating the lawn’ and enhances the absorption of topical active ingredients applied post-treatment. Dr. Sherber will choose a post-treatment serum that best addresses your skin’s needs, and it will absorb much more deeply than if applied to untreated skin.
You will rest comfortably in a reclining chair, with an ambiance that is relaxing and calming. Dr. Sherber’s team may (but not always) apply a topical numbing balm to your skin which has a cooling sensation. Not everyone needs numbing before treatment because the C+B laser is well tolerated even without it, and Dr. Sherber adjusts the laser treatment intensity to your comfort level and also to your skin’s needs. Patients may undergo treatment of full face, neck, decolleté and back of hands (which often shows sun damage, as well) and Dr. Sherber will guide you regarding which areas may benefit most to fit your goals. Treatment takes only 10-30 minutes, depending on the number of areas treated and your unique needs. Post-treatment you can expect to have mild flushing of facial skin, similar to the pinkness you might experience after a workout, which disappears within a day and is not disconcerting to patients. Over several days you’ll notice that your skin has a “sand paper” feeling which indicates that the top layer of skin is being restored anew. Keep in mind that this is a gentle resurfacing treatment and so serial sessions spaced every few weeks offers optimal results. Recognized as a world expert in laser technology, Dr. Sherber’s treatments are focused on patient safety, comfort and results, and without downtime.
Clear + Brilliant is a innovative fractionated non-ablative diode (1440nm) laser. Its target in the skin is water, which means that it acts directly on collagen and can be used safely in skin tones from fair to deeply pigmented, and can be used safely in men without damaging facial hair follicles.
Safety is our highest priority and Dr. Sherber is renowned for her exceptional skill in safely treating patients with laser. She uses the Clear + Brilliant laser platform to resurface skin and restore lost collagen in a gentle, safe and highly effective manner. Dr. Sherber is an expert not only in avoiding problems that can occur with overly aggressive laser treatment such as scarring, pigmentation and melasma, and she is highly sought after for her expertise in corrective work. In Dr. Sherber’s hands, men and women can benefit from Clear + Brilliant laser to improve skin safely and effectively, without downtime.
Clear + Brilliant Perméa is the newest laser in this system, with a wavelength (1927nm) slightly different from the original Clear + Brilliant to target uneven pigmentation more specifically.
Clinical studies demonstrated that those treated with Clear + Brilliant Perméa followed by a topical antioxidant serum noted greater uniform tone, boosted radiance and enhanced overall appearance.

Our team will take high resolution photographs for your record so that we can observe the results of your treatment with accuracy. We will then ask you about your medical history, including current medications and any prior procedures. Dr. Sherber will talk with you about your specific goals and customize a treatment plan for you that might include Botox, other injectables, laser treatments, and skincare products. Dr. Sherber is a board-certified dermatologist and performs all treatments personally.
Before Botox treatment we will clean your skin thoroughly, and Dr. Sherber will ask you to move your facial muscles to make various expressions so that she can map out your muscular anatomy. The injections are not painful but you may feel a small pinch in more sensitive areas. Several points will be injected, with the exact number of injections needed determined by your anatomy and by the extent of the areas being treated. Treatment takes about 5-10 minutes.
Dr. Sherber graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University, where she designed and implemented a novel degree program in health policy focused on assessing and improving quality of care. She next attended the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where she earned her M.D. degree. Following a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical research at Columbia University, she returned to Johns Hopkins for dermatology residency training and conducted research in scar healing and in disorders of abnormal collagen. She is now a Clinical Assistant Professor at George Washington University in the Department of Dermatology.
