Blue Light LED

Blue light LED is a powerful blue visible light source, from the award-winning CACI Ultra device. Blue light LED has been clinically proven to reduce the bacteria that are associated with active inflammatory acne. The American Academy of Dermatology has reported that blue LED light phototherapy can be used to destroy the bacteria cutibacterium acnes (formerly known as propionibacterium acnes) that produces the inflammation associated with acne. The application of LED light to the skin is termed ‘Phototherapy’ derived from the measurement of light energy in units of photons. This treatment employs a powerful LED source of blue visible light and is a popular safe treatment option for acne during pregnancy or breastfeeding when other treatments may not have a favorable risk profile.

Dr. Sherber knows that not all skin types and tones respond in the same way to the various treatments, and therefore thoroughly evaluates each patient’s skin to design a course of treatment that combines multiple treatment modalities to provide the best results possible. Best results are generally achieved with a series of treatments and cost varies based on the extent of the areas treated.

01Consultation + Preparation

In preparation for the consultation it is important to let us know if you have a history of herpes simplex cold sores, so that we may prescribe an oral antiviral to take as an adjunct to treatment to prevent an outbreak. Some types of hyperpigmentation, such as melasma, may make LED treatment unsuitable or may necessitate pre-treatment with topical brighteners to prevent hyperpigmentation.

During the consultation, our team will take high resolution photographs for your record so that we can observe the results of your treatment with accuracy. We will then ask you about your medical history, including current medications and any prior procedures. Dr. Sherber will talk with you about your specific goals and customize a treatment plan for you that might include other treatment modalities such as skincare, topical or oral acne medications, additional laser treatments such as Laser Genesis and Perméa, and Botox microinfusion. Areas that we typically treat include the face and chest.

02Procedure

A Blue Light LED treatment is comfortable and is typically completed within 15 minutes. A Blue Light LED treatment does not require topical numbing, as it is painless.

Once the areas to be treated have been thoroughly cleansed and wiped with alcohol, the LED handpiece is used to precisely and evenly deliver the visible light to the treated area. A warm sensation may be felt during treatment. Once the treatment is complete patients can often return to their daily schedule with no downtime.

03recovery

Immediately post-treatment Dr. Sherber will apply a gentle but potent customized serum based on your skin type to enhance the effects of the treatment, as well as a broad spectrum sunscreen.

Your usual activity can be resumed immediately after treatment and makeup can be applied to the areas treated as you will not have peeling or other more noticeable after-effects.

04results

Ideally, these treatments needed to be repeated several times to achieve optimal results. For inflammatory acne, treatment may be recommended every week or two until the acne improves.
