Skin Cancer + Pre-Cancer

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in humans, and regular skin checks are key to ensuring early detection and treatment of skin cancers and pre-cancers. Dr. Sherber looks for subtle changes in skin architecture and abnormalities in the pigment network through examination with dermoscopy. As part of skin cancer screening, Dr. Sherber establishes a comprehensive treatment plan and thorough follow-up. High resolution photographs may be used to track spots of concern, and any biopsies performed are read by board certified Dermatopathologists selected by Dr. Sherber for their exceptional expertise and clinical judgment. Pre-cancerous lesions may be amenable to topical treatment, with no surgery required.

Depending on the type, depth, and size of a skin cancer, Dr. Sherber may involve a Mohs surgeon, plastic surgeon, or oncologist as needed. Throughout the treatment process, patients will have extensive support from her team of top experts who prioritize the care of her patients and ensure that treatment is prompt and complete.

how to spot skin cancer

One in 5 Americans will be diagnosed with skin cancer, and pre-cancerous damage may be even more common. There are both genetic and environmental factors that influence an individual’s propensity to develop skin cancer. Since we cannot change genetic predispositions, optimization of environmental factors is important for preventing skin cancer. This includes consistent use of broad spectrum sunscreen, preventing sunburn, and avoiding tanning beds.
