Neck Liposuction
Liposuction is the gold standard for removing fatty deposits in areas of that body that tend to be stubborn to weight loss. This body contouring procedure involves small, hidden incisions to access the regions with excess stubborn fat where it is then removed with a cannula.
The areas of the body Dr. Rad most commonly treats with liposuction are the abdomen, flanks, the inner and outer thighs, as well as the arms and the neck. After excess fat is removed, the skin generally reforms tightly to the body’s new contours. If skin elasticity is not ideal, patients might want to consider alternative procedures for liposuction. Liposuction is a safe, outpatient procedure that generally takes about one or two weeks to recover.
Dr. Rad uses liposuction safely and permanently to remove fat through hidden and small incisions. Suction-Assisted Liposuction is most effective in the setting of good skin elasticity and in the absence of skin looseness or stretch marks. There is no proven difference between laser liposuction (Smartlipo™), VASER™ liposuction, and traditional suction techniques.
“Aesthetics are about nuance, subtlety, harmony and plausible deniability.”

01Artistry
Liposuction with Dr. Rad is akin to a sculptor molding clay – achieving a smooth and beautiful result depends on the surgeon’s skill and artistic vision. He often combines Abdominoplasty + Liposuction for a more comprehensive result.
02Safety
Experience is everything when it comes to safety. Dr. Rad has performed neck liposuction routinely and. he prides himself in achieving beautiful, natural results for both women and men, and he operates with safety at top of mind by working with expert anesthesia and nursing teams at DC’s top hospital-based surgery centers. In Dr. Rad’s hands, neck liposuction entails low risk and safety is always top of mind. Dr. Rad’s innate familiarity with facial anatomy, knowledge of safe navigation of the delicate nerves, muscles and blood vessels, and working with expert anesthesia and nursing teams, all translate to keeping patients safe.
03Technique
Dr. Rad’s technique involves the following steps:
- Liposuction improves body and facial contours and overall body proportions by removing subcutaneous fat (i.e. fat just under the skin).
- Dr. Rad inserts a hollow tube or “cannula,” using small incisions, and by using meticulous technique in moving the cannula back-and-forth through the fat layer, Dr. Rad is able to sculpt and mold the neck.
- Dr. Rad injects a numbing solution called tumescent fluid which also contains epinephrine to minimize bleeding which is quite minor. Incisions are inconspicuous as Dr. Rad places them in hidden areas or natural creases where they are out of sight.

frequently askedQuestions
How do I know if I’m a good candidate for Neck Liposuction?
It is common for most of us to look in the mirror and see at least one or two areas of the body we wish had less fat. Oftentimes, that fat can linger despite dieting and exercise. Getting rid of this fat permanently can be achieved with liposuction. This is part of the reason liposuction is one of the most common surgical procedures in the country.
Typically, the ideal candidate is one who has already lost a significant amount of weight and struggles with loose skin and/or stretched abdominal walls post-pregnancy.
People who are considering liposuction should be close to their ideal weight. Liposuction is not meant to be used as a tool for losing large amounts of weight, but rather as a tool for effective body contouring and touching up small areas of the body.
An ideal candidate for liposuction is one who is committed to a healthy lifestyle, doesn’t smoke and has no underlying health concerns that may make the procedure risky.
If there is a large amount of excess skin or skin elasticity is limited, it can be difficult to achieve a good result. This is because poor skin elasticity does not retract as well as skin that has not been excessively stretched or overly thinned. A combination of liposuction with other treatments might be the answer here. Dr. Rad will take his time with each patient during your consultation to determine if you are a good candidate for liposuction.
Areas that liposuction is most effective are: Love handles, Abdomen, Thighs, Neck, Arms
What kind of anesthesia is used?
For body contouring light sedation anesthesia is used but it is an outpatient procedure, which means you can return home the same day. Anesthesia maximizes comfort and safety and Dr. Rad works with a Board certified anesthesiologist for safest anesthesia, rapid awakening and minimal side effects such as nausea.
Is there a difference between different liposuction devices?
SmartLipo, SlimLipo, Vaser Lipo, and Power-Assisted Liposuction all use different technology to loosen or melt fat. However they all depend on suction for removal. While the laser-based devices claim skin tightening, this has never been proven in controlled blinded studies (and therefore falls under the category of an unproven claim for marketing). Furthermore, SmartLipo, SlimLipo and Vaser Lipo have 2 additional drawbacks: (1) they pose a risk to patients for burning because of the heat delivered at the very tip of the cannula – this can be dangerous in inexperienced hands, and (2) they incur higher fees because the machines are very expensive to purchase and maintain. Dr. Rad has used all technologies of liposuction and has found that power-assisted “Microaire” liposuction is equally effective for fat removal and body contouring, and is also most cost-effective as there is no upcharge for use of this technology.
