Canthoplasty (Fox Eye Lift)

Canthoplasty or “fox eye lift” refers to a procedure whereby Dr. Rad elevates the outer corners of the eyes with the goal of gently tilting the eye shape – visually this translates to enhanced beauty of a woman’s or man’s eyes without drastically changing her appearance.

Our patients prefer subtle enhancements with minimal downtime and no evidence of surgery. Along these lines, subtle enhancement of eye shape can transform eyes from dull and tired to alluring and vibrant. Canthoplasty, or “fox eye lift,” is a highly artistic and delicate, but minimally invasive, procedure and Dr. Rad uses it to enhance a woman’s beauty. Dr. Rad’s unique approach lifts the outer corners of the eyes which tilts the horizontal axis (i.e., a line drawn from the inner to outer corner), creating a more beautiful shape. By comparison, Melania Trump’s eyes have a similar shape to a cat’s eyes which is part of her striking beauty. During a comfortable 45 minute in-office procedure under local anesthetic, either alone or in combination with upper blepharoplasty to brighten eyes further, canthoplasty can be performed with only 3 days of recovery.

Men or women who might benefit from canthopexy include those whose eyes look sad, fatigued, lackluster and disinterested. Oftentimes this is due to an unfavorable downward tilt of the eyes. Age-related looseness of the lower eyelid can also cause excess “scleral show” (i.e. the whites of the eyes are visible below the iris) – canthopexy is a good fix for this, as well.

“Plastic surgery is the craft of enhancing beauty without the evidence.”

02Safety

A canthoplasty (fox eye lift) must be done with light sedation/general anesthesia. Once you are deemed a good candidate, surgery can be planned, and Dr. Rad meets with you a second time to review the details of the surgery, provide prescriptions, review medical clearances, and answer your questions. Detailed pre- and post-operative instructions are provided and you are thoroughly prepped for surgery.

In Dr. Rad’s hands, canthoplasty is safe and extremely very low risk. The procedure is performed in the office while awake and under local injected numbing anesthetic for patient comfort.

How do I know if I’m a good candidate for a Canthoplasty (“Fox Eye Lift”)?
K
L

Eyes looking sad, morose or simply not attractive can be disconcerting. The cat eye lift can help to reverse these appearances either alone or in combination with brow lift or blepharoplasty procedures. The patient most likely to benefit from Cat Eye reshaping is one whose eyes tilt slightly downward and/or whose outer lower eyelid contours appear to be “sagging”. If you find it bothersome to see yourself in photos with “sad appearing” eyes then this may be due to downward tilting eye shape. The shape and tilt of eyebrows definitely impacts this and Dr. Rad commonly recommends combination brow lift with canthopexy. Reversing the downward tilt can reverse the sad appearance and restore a more attractive, alluring eye shape. Brow and eyelid lifts can work synergistically to enhance the results further. As in all cases, patients should be in good overall health and have a firm understanding with regards to the expectations.

What is better: Canthoplasty of Upper Blepharoplasty?
K
L

Neither is better – both are unique and achieve complementary goals. Think of canthopexy as enhancing eye shape to create an alluring appearance, whereas upper blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) brightens and refreshes the eyes. Both work synergistically with each other and Dr. Rad often employs both to achieve the 100% result for his Washington DC and northern Virginia eyelid lift patients.

What are the downsides of Canthoplasty?
K
L

There are very few downsides. When skin laxity is moderate, particularly in the outer eyelid region, an upper blepharoplasty may be necessary to obtain the best canthopexy result. However, this is not a true downside as the result becomes better by combining both procedures.

Can this be combined with other procedures?
K
L

Yes! Cat eye lift synergizes well with facelift, brow lift, and upper and lower blepharoplasty. Think of it as a powerful tool Dr. Rad is used to refine features and restore volume in specific areas to achieve balanced and nuanced results.

What is the cost of a Canthoplasty “Fox Eye Lift” surgery?
K
L

The cost of a fox eye lift depends on many factors: the type of brow lift, whether it is performed in-office or in a hospital-based OR, and the quality/skill of the surgeon. In Dr. Rad’s Washington DC facial cosmetic surgery practice, the cost of canthopexy surgery is roughly $4,900. With that said, pricing can exceed $7,500 for complex eyelid reconstruction or corrective work after prior unsatisfactory work. While total cost increases when combined with other procedures, surgery is cost-effective when multiple procedures are combined. Cost is a reflection of the skill and experience required to obtain excellent results. Under Dr. Rad’s care of your experience is guaranteed to be the highest quality.
