INSIDER’S ITINERARY: BARCELONA

Barcelona is the city on everyone’s bucket list, and is known as “the city of marvels” for its architecture, arts, natural beauty and endless tapas… perhaps also because it is the hometown of one of our favorite skincare brands, Natura Bissé. While this is a tourist-favorite destination and guidebooks abound, locals know the best places to visit.  We asked José Villegas, Natura Bissé’s C.O.O., to give us his personal guide to a perfect day in the city.

Start the day by sampling the array of delicious local specialties at La Boqueria, the largest food market in the city.  The café con leche you might commonly order to start the day elsewhere in Spain (coffee with milk) is called a “café amb llet” if you want to order in Catalan.  Walk off breakfast by taking a stroll through the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art. Designed by Richard Meier with a striking minimalist edifice in the Raval district of the city, it houses notable collections of 20th century art.

Next stop: a trip to Barcelona isn’t complete without a tour of Gaudi’s emblematic cathedral, La Sagrada Familia.  Gaudi’s iconic dream is still underway and construction is anticipated to be completed in 2026.  You can continue the deep dive into Gaudi’s world by visiting Casa Batlló, another of his masterpieces, in the center of the city.

You can’t start the fiesta without a siesta! Stop by your stylish suite at Hotel 1898 and embrace the Spanish tradition of an afternoon rest before your evening festivities.  This hotel in the heart of Barcelona has one of the popular terraces that locals enjoy for taking in beautiful weather and striking city views.  The building has Catalan architecture and Colonial influences, dating back to its origins as the General Philippines Tobacco Company headquarters, and is updated with modern luxuries.

Kick off the evening with tapas on another popular terrace as you watch the sun set over picturesque beachscapes at Casa Fuster: try to plan a visit on a Thursday to Café Vienés when it transforms into an exclusive live jazz club.  Dinner is enjoyed late into the evening in Spain, so take your time heading over to Pez Vela to enjoy a delicious paella next to the beach.  Buen provecho!

Barcelona is known for its “baile” so what better way to end your day than to dance to the rhythm at Mirablau, which is the place to be if you’re ready to experience panoramic views with a disco kick… and this disco often lasts until dawn.
