If you want to improve the appearance of your nose while preserving your ethnic characteristics, then ethnic rhinoplasty in Washington, DC, may help you to achieve your goals. Also called a “nose job,” this specialized nose cosmetic surgery requires a high degree of precision and a deep understanding of structural nasal anatomy and the ethnic uniqueness of each patient’s nose.
Since 2009, Dr. Ariel Rad has treated thousands of patients, and his deep experience in ethnic rhinoplasty offers beautiful results to his many rhinoplasty patients.
Ethnic rhinoplasty is similar to traditional rhinoplasty surgery, except that it takes the unique ethnic characteristics of the nose into consideration. Patients coming from non-Caucasian descent can benefit from rhinoplasty without diminishing the distinct facial attributes of their ethnicity.
Different cultures have distinguishing features, and in the right hands, ethnic rhinoplasty can complement these features effectively. Dr. Rad is experienced in treating patients seeking Middle Eastern rhinoplasty, Latin American rhinoplasty, European or Caucasian rhinoplasty, Turkish rhinoplasty, Iranian rhinoplasty, and rhinoplasty for other global ethnicities.
If you desire an aesthetic improvement to your nose while retaining your unique ethnic features, then you may be a candidate for ethnic rhinoplasty. The most common features to improve are a dorsal “hump” (curved bump on bridge) and a bulbous nasal tip. Patients also often seek improvement of nostril shape and proportion.
Dr. Rad takes the unique features of each patient’s ethnicity into consideration and carefully plans an approach that suits the face. This procedure is not performed for patients who are under 18 years of age.
During your initial consultation, Dr. Rad will take the time to understand your aesthetic goals. He will perform an examination to better understand the intricacies of your facial structure and nasal structures.
Dr. Rad will then make recommendations for the most suitable approach for your surgery. The approach will be unique to your anatomy, and Dr. Rad does not use a “cookie cutter” approach. He will also review your complete medical history to assess compatibility and risk factors.
An ethnic rhinoplasty procedure can take approximately two to three hours to perform, sometimes longer if additional cartilage grafts are needed, and depending on the technique and desired results. Anesthesia is administered at the start of the surgery to prevent any discomfort. The type of anesthesia that will be used will be discussed in depth during your consultation.
Depending on the rhinoplasty technique being used, incisions are made inside the nostrils (closed rhinoplasty) or between them externally, across the columella (open rhinoplasty). Structures are then refined and reshaped to achieve the optimal outcome. Sometimes Dr. Rad needs to borrow cartilage from behind the ear (an ear cartilage graft) or from the rib (a rib graft).
Dr. Rad restructures the bone and cartilage to create the desired shape, and the nasal tissues are redraped. Incisions are closed with dissolvable sutures. Internal and external splints help stabilize the nose while healing, and splints are removed one week after surgery.
Your vision for your results will emerge through detailed consultation with Dr. Rad, meticulous examination of your anatomy, and careful pre-surgical planning. While Dr. Rad’s surgical approach is unique for each patient, the goal of naturalness remains constant.

Individual results may vary.
The recovery period will vary depending on the technique and intricacy of the procedure and typically lasts one week with splints in place. We provide detailed pre- and post-operative instructions, as well as prescription medications, to help with a smooth and comfortable recovery.
Swelling and bruising are common, along with mild discomfort, but these can be alleviated with mild pain medications.
A week after the surgery, you may be asked to come back for a follow-up appointment to remove the splint and check on the progress of healing. Exercises should be avoided for a few weeks. You may be able to return to work two weeks after your rhinoplasty.
The cost of ethnic rhinoplasty depends on the complexity of the work, whether it is primary or revision surgery, the time needed, the need for cartilage grafts, the degree of desired change, anesthesia and facility costs (surgery is done at a surgical center), and other factors. If combination procedures are performed, this can also affect the overall cost.
The cost of ethnic rhinoplasty can range from $7,500 for primary rhinoplasty to $25,000 or more for revision and reconstructive rhinoplasty.
