Overview of Skinvive in Washington DC

What is Skinvive?

Skinvive is the first skin booster to gain FDA approval in the U.S.. Skin boosters are hyaluronic acid injectables, however they are not fillers and do not add volume. Rather, Skinvive is a skin quality treatment to restore deep hydration to the skin for increased smoothness and a glossy glow. Skinvive is made by Allergan and is known as Volite overseas, where it has been a mainstay of aesthetic treatment in Europe, Asia, Brazil, and Canada for years.

Injection of this serum-textured product is performed with a microdroplet technique, and so bruising is possible post-treatment. As always, please minimize the risk of bruising by discontinuing NSAIDs (such as aspirin, Advil, Aleve, ibuprofen), fish oil, and supplements containing ginger, ginseng, and gingko for 2 weeks before your appointment. Please also avoid alcohol in the days leading up to your appointment as this also worsens bruising.

Dr. Sherber has been working to get skinboosters to the U.S. as part of a global skin quality advisory board since 2019, and so we’re delighted to be one of the first to offer this new treatment category.

This product is FDA approved for treatment of the cheeks, with a suggested starting treatment volume of 2cc for this anatomic area, and is injected widely off-label to address thin-skinned or crepey areas.

What are Dr. Sherber’s patients saying?

  • great experience – Baltimore, MD
Botox/Juvaderm has made me look 10 yrs younger! Excellent results. Minimal bruising. Very comfortable experience with a very caring doctor.”

    – Kim in Pa (RealSelf)

  • “I started seeing Dr. Sherber for Botox, laser and fillers, approximately 10 years ago in Baltimore. I followed her to Washington D.C. when she and her husband, plastic surgeon Dr. Rad, opened a joint practice. Last year it was time to for Dr. Sherber to hand me over to Dr. Rad for surgical work. I had an amazing experience with Dr. Rad when he performed a lower face/necklift, chin implant, lower blepharoplasty and fat transfer. At the one year mark, I decided to return for a tummy tuck and upper arm lipo. This time I was smart to stay in Sibley hospital – 2 nights – after my experience with hard-to-control pain during the first 2 post-op days last year, when we were in an outpatient surgical center. I was treated very well despite being very needy with respect to pain control. Everything is still very swollen and bruised but looks good so far. I will continue to travel to D.C. for maintenance treatment and any new procedures with both of them. They are that amazing.”

Consultation with Dr. Sherber

What Can I Expect from My Consultation with Dr. Sherber?

Our team will take high resolution photographs for your record so that we can observe the results of your treatment with accuracy. We will then ask you about your medical history, including current medications and any prior procedures. Dr. Sherber will talk with you about your specific goals and customize a treatment plan for you that might include Botox, other injectables, laser treatments, and skincare products. Dr. Sherber is a board-certified dermatologist and performs all treatments personally.

Before Botox treatment we will clean your skin thoroughly, and Dr. Sherber will ask you to move your facial muscles to make various expressions so that she can map out your muscular anatomy. The injections are not painful but you may feel a small pinch in more sensitive areas. Several points will be injected, with the exact number of injections needed determined by your anatomy and by the extent of the areas being treated. Treatment takes about 5-10 minutes.
